We had a photo pit that extended around both sides and the end of the stage a lot of room to cover. I don’t believe I have seen this configuration before. The stage was turned so it jetted out into the crowd in a runway fashion with visual access to three sides of the stage. I estimated there were 15,000 fans in attendance even with the weather report a bit sketchy. The Bon Secours Wellness Arena was almost filled to capacity. I was even asked to join the photographers group shot before the show! This is a tradition of concert and event photographers to document who was present at a particular show. From the arena’s personnel to the other photographers covering the concert that night, I truly felt welcomed in a foreign environment. Somehow, that inclement weather did not interfere with the show and Greenville was spared. The Carolinas are beautiful this time of year, but the day of the show there had been scattered showers and tornado warnings in the area. So, I was off to Greenville to cover the two most intriguing bands of 2021. I have family that lives 500 yards from that venue. Much to my dismay, there were no Florida dates on the tour? No worries, the closest date was at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. To top it off, Shinedown is out in support of their upcoming 2022 release, Planet Zero. When I saw that they were going out on tour with Shinedown, Billboard‘s #1 Greatest of All Time Mainstreams Rock Artist, I thought that is a show that couldn’t be missed.

Both are just powerhouse albums released in 2021. There are epic sing-a-longs, gut punching lyrics and a sense of purpose here that will leave you uplifted, and reaching for the replay button the moment it ends.Īttention Attention is released tomorrow (May 4th 2018) through Atlantic Records.I have been waiting a year to see Diamante and The Pretty Reckless after promoting their album releases last year on All Music Magazine Diamante’s Album American Dream and The Pretty Reckless’s release, Death By Rock And Roll. This is everything they done up until now taken and distilled into its purest form. Its a real highlight of the album.Īttention Attention is an album of moods and layers from a band that has been steadily defining themselves album after album and has reached a point where writing massive emotional arena rock is second nature to them. its stark, honest and will stand as one of the bands most defining moments. It’s one of the more goosebump raising moments on the album. Special slows the pace right down and is a lovely piano and strings lead track.

On the flip side, Darkside has a vein of Imagine Dragons running through it, which is no bad thing at all. Monsters and Pyro are trademark Shinedown numbers and will please the older fans as they hark back to the bands earlier work. The power of the song is in the lyrics, all about standing up for yourself and putting yourself back together after some potentially poor decision making.

It’s like having someone sit you down and get right into your face and ask you what are you going to do?īlack Soul is another heavy track with a canyon sized chorus designed to level stadiums. Devil has a hard edged riff to it that really digs into your brain, and does the loud-to-quiet thing really well and has a really explosive chorus. This is an album that is about facing who you are and accepting who you are for better or worse. This is audibly a journey about self discovery, acceptance and recovery. Make no mistake when Brent Smith says ‘It’s about to get heavy’ in the middle of Devil, he isn’t necessarily talking about the music, but the themes on show. Picking up the threads left behind by 2015’s Threat to Survival, Shinedown have turned turmoil into gold, with a concept album about the weight of human emotion. Their latest Attention Attention may be their best and most varied album yet. Through sheer will and determination, they keep raising their game, and knocking out album after album of increasing quality. Shinedown have become one of the premier rock bands over the course of the last 10 years. Overall Score: 8.5/10 Lyrics: 8/10 Songs: 9/10 Replay Value: 8/10 Pros: songs have weight and emotional resonance Cons: It feels a little long in places
